The history of Chinatown, London stretches back long before the Chinese community of restaurants and businesses popped up in the 1950s. The first area in London known as Chinatown was located in the Limehouse area of London's East End. At the start of the 20th century, the Chinese population of London was concentrated in that area, setting up businesses which catered to the Chinese sailors who frequented the Docklands. However, much of the area was damaged by aerial bombing during the Second World War.

The artist attempted to look back at this history by searching for traces of the old Chinatown site and exploring the impact of the history of Chinese immigration in the UK on the Chinese in London today.
